~ The first part of THE CROSS OF CHRIST gives a brief survey of how the cross was used by the Phoenicians, the Greeks and the Romans before the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. These nations punished the worst of criminals by hanging them on a cross. The Jews, however, did not punish a person by hanging on a cross because they believed that anyone who was killed by crucifixion was under a curse (Deut 17:5).
Then follows a description of how and why Jesus was crucified. The discussion centres on His arrest and His trial before the High Priest, Pilate and Herod.
The next section is an exegesis of each of the Seven Words Jesus uttered from the cross. The book ends with an examination of the Resurrection of Jesus as described in the four Gospels.
